Shock Oliver

0.450m x 2.500m
Shock Oliver was a notorious highwayman of the Great North Road, who robbed rich travellers in a relatively short period around the 1870’s. In this design the Great North Road runs behind him (the road ran through the town until the by-pass was built in the 1960’s) a mile-marker bears the legend “45 miles to London”. The next panel shows a stagecoach arriving at the Swan Inn (also rebuilt after the Great Fire)
